Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 packet of active dry yeast with 1 cup of warm milk and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add in the yeast mixture, along with 1/4 cup of melted butter, 1 beaten egg, and the zest and juice of 1 orange, stirring to form a soft dough.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Shape the kneaded dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, turning it to coat. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a rope about 10-12 inches long. Twist the ropes into knots and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the tops of the knots with melted butter or an egg wash to give them a golden color. Bake the Sweet Orange Knots in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  7. While the knots are still warm from the oven, prepare the glaze by mixing 1 cup of powdered sugar with enough orange juice to achieve a drizzle consistency. Drizzle the glaze over the Sweet Orange Knots.
