Preparation Steps
  1. Peel and trim the onion, then slice it into petal-shaped wedges without cutting through the root.
  2. Soak the onion in buttermilk for 10-15 minutes to tenderize.
  3. Mix flour, panko, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl until well combined.
  4. Remove the onion from the buttermilk, coat each petal in the flour mixture thoroughly.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and arrange coated petals in a single layer, spritz with cooking oil.
  6. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  7. Serve with dipping sauces once cooled slightly.
