  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Peel the large onion and trim the top, leaving the root intact. Slice the onion into petals without cutting through the root, then soak in buttermilk for 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix together all-purpose flour, panko breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly combined.
  3. Gently shake off excess buttermilk from the onion. Coat each petal thoroughly with the flour mixture, pressing lightly to ensure it sticks.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes. Place the coated onion petals in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Lightly spray the tops with cooking oil, then cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  5. Remove the crispy onion petals from the air fryer and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
