Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water in a colander, discarding any damaged or soft berries.
  2. Combine the rinsed cranberries, sugar, and water/juice in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Raise the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a vigorous boil for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and gently mash some cranberries for desired texture.
  5. Add zest or spices if using, then let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  6. Transfer the cranberry sauce to an airtight container, let cool to room temperature, and refrigerate.
