Preparing the Casserole
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the half and half, eggs, vanilla extract, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and kosher salt until smooth.
- Cut the croissants in half lengthwise and layer them in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the strawberries and blueberries over the croissants.
- Pour the custard mixture over the croissants and berries, ensuring everything is soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45 to 50 minutes until golden brown and set.
- Warm the maple syrup and add the dark rum in a saucepan over low heat.
- Serve warm after dusting with powdered sugar and drizzling with the syrup.
